MacroMay - day 26

Matt has pretty hair. However, right now, our hair is about the same length. For some reason, this bothers me. I am gently trying to convince him to get it cut; he has taken to calling me Delilah. Pshah!

MacroMay - day 23

Perhaps I am a magpie at heart because sometimes I cannot resist sparkly stuff.* Yeah, this yarn is probably highly flammable, but I am totally smitten with it. I have no idea what I am going to make with it yet, but I can guarantee you it will be tacky.

* Ahem, that is, of course, with the exception of moody, borderline stalker, controlling vampires - that's the kind of sparkly I want no part of.

MacroMay - day 22

If the devil is in the details, this dress is positively eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil.

MacroMay - day 20

The flower in the top photo in yesterday's MacroMay post is the same flower in the top photo for today's. What a difference a day can make! Also, I am delighted with the way the poppies are a'poppin' everywhere! I am going to find it hard to resist photographing them through all their stages of blooming over the next few days. Ah, May flowers are killing me with the pretty!

MacroMay - day 18

This was the point last year when I bowed out of MacroMay. Basically, I got bored with the project, lost interest in blogging, and generally wasn't able to hang. I gotta say, with everything that is going on these days (which for the most part is all really really good - great, even!), I have been more than a little distracted and not making the time to play with the camera. My momentum is slacking, but this time around I am resolved to see this to the end - because I refuse to bail like a wuss. Tomorrow, I am taking my camera with me everywhere!

MacroMay - day 17

Note to self: remember to pack the camera in your bag in the morning before you step out of the house because doing so will ensure that you will have it on hand to take photos of the lovely things you encounter during the day and record the fun times with friends, leaving you with a better MacroMay photo than this shot of a towel. I mean, for real? A towel? Seriously, folks, my life is a little bit more interesting than this. Really. I swear!

Sheltie of a Triangle

pattern: Shetland Triangle, from Wrap Style
designer: Evelyn A. Clark
yarn: Single Ply Artisan Merino & Silk blend by Ball and Skein
needles: Addi Lace #1
modifications: read on

It is done, it is blocked, and I am extremely satisfied. As I mentioned in my previous post, instead of using the size 6 needles the pattern calls for, I used 1s to get a denser knit and a smaller shawl. However, I was afraid of just how teeny this was pre-blocking. It measured 30 inches wide by about 20 inches long. After blocking, it grew to 48 inches by 26, which is enough to wrap comfortably around my neck in a jaunty fashion:

This is exactly what I wanted from this knit. It's lovely and lacy, but not too gauzy. Because the yarn is a single-ply silky merino (in a juicy shade of green by Ball & Skein), it has a slight, subtle nap that lends itself perfectly to the pattern. Overall, I am seriously in love. I'm hoping tomorrow will be as crisp as today so I can wear this out!

so, if I pour some water on it, do you think it will grow?

You know how they say that size doesn't matter? I have no idea who they are, but they lie. Oh, they lie. Big time! No offense to you, Shetland Triangle. You know, when I first started knitting you, Shetland Triangle, I didn't think you were going to be, like, huge. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I knew that when I went down to size 1 needles instead of the size 6 the pattern calls for that there was no way you would ever be described as "large," "humongous," "all-engulfing," "gigundo," stop me when it gets to be too much.... Basically, I knew what I was getting into, but I just didn't expect you to be so... ummm, huh, how do I say this? Lacking in size. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being... small. Clearly, I wanted less of a shawl and more of a shawlette, but you are barely a kerchief. I guess I'm a little disappointed is all. I mean, what am I supposed to do with you? Wrap you around my head like I'm Little Edie?

Mali as Little Edie

Or Little Steven, for that matter? So I'm going to soak you, my puny wee lacy friend, and once you're nice and saturated, I'm going to block your brains out because clearly you need to blocked like no other shawlette has been blocked before. Oh yes, I am going to block the m'f'ing daylights out of you. Let's hope it works.

MacroMay - day 6

Why was the mushroom the life of the party? Because he was a "fun-gi!" Yeah, I know, I tell jokes like someone's grandpa. You love it. You laughed.
