the joy of swaps

julia's amazing handspun

Julia rocks! We had arranged a swap like a month or so ago, before the holidays and all that. I made this little fella here for her. In exchange, she blew me away with this hand-dyed, hand-spun gorgeosity. Having never knit with hand-spun before, but long coveting all the folks I see knitting with it, I cannot tell you how freaking excited I am about this. I am seriously overjoyed. Thank you so much, Julia, for such a super-awesome excellent swap!

P.S. - Those little "knit" buttons that came with the yarn are so cool. Love love LOVE!

sneaky peeks - the handwarmer project

sneaky peeks - purl bee handwarmers

I've said it a million times, and I will say it again: I love the purl bee! Immensely, enthusiastically, and totally love it! When I saw this pattern for handwarmers, I couldn't resist. I treated myself to the yarn they recommended (The Fiber Company's Organik) and cast on as soon as I got the chance. The yarn is FABULOUS, but more on that later. I am almost done with the first one. My hands hurt a little from working the stitch pattern (and because my right hand has not been too happy lately), so I am going a little slower than I normally would with this. I could definitely see someone cranking out a pair of these in one day, however. Anyway, that's just a sneak peek. Hopefully, I will have a finished pair to share with you soon.

P.S. - Have you seen the pattern for the baby hat? GAH! I want to make that! I need to make that! And I think I have just the yarn for it somewhere....

getting my knit together at long last

endpaper mitts -hooray!

Last project of 2007: Endpaper Mitts
Pattern by: Eunny Jang
Yarn: A lovely silk/alpaca blend that I got in a swap with kris (I lost the label, though)

Whuttup my good knittas! It's been a long time since we last spoke in this forum.

I know that I have said in the past that I did not want to do a knit-blog because I am not exclusively a knitter. In fact, I am loathe to call myself a knitter at all because I am not as hardcore about knitting as so many other people that I know. I knit because I enjoy it; it's relaxing and fun and totally engrossing. The last few months, I haven't been able to make the time to knit as much as I would like, and I have missed it tremendously. That's why I have started this blog again. Because I do want a place to rave about all the exciting knitting projects I have on cue and gush about fiber, and I don't think that any of my other bloggy ventures are quite the appropriate place for such. So I hope you tune in. I would love to pick up where we left off only this time with focus, specificity, and a more positive attitude. Here's to a new year of knits!
